Hello all,

I have been experiencing this problem since saturday, what I did basically is that I activated debugging in my system and enabled CONFIG_USER_NS in my kernel and did an update as far as I remember ever since my system crashes randomly and goes back to the sddm login screen with occasionally:

Quote:
Could not start ksmserver. Check your installation

Even though, this package is from kde4 and is hard masked and not installed on my system since a while.

After digging some dmesg messages, I found that this occurred right before the crash

Code:

    [  937.520046] [UFW BLOCK] ...
    [  968.865733] EXT4-fs (sda2): unable to read superblock
    [  968.885831] EXT4-fs (sda2): unable to read superblock
    [  968.887057] EXT4-fs (sda2): unable to read superblock
    [  968.898357] FAT-fs (sda2): invalid media value (0xe7)
    [  968.898363] FAT-fs (sda2): Can't find a valid FAT filesystem
    [  968.899777] FAT-fs (sda2): invalid media value (0xe7)
    [  968.899783] FAT-fs (sda2): Can't find a valid FAT filesystem
    [  968.901042] isofs_fill_super: bread failed, dev=sda2, iso_blknum=16, block=32
[  968.914851] attempt to access beyond end of device
    [  968.914855] sda2: rw=16, want=3, limit=2
[  968.914857] hfsplus: unable to find HFS+ superblock
    [  968.918727] hfs: can't find a HFS filesystem on dev sda2
[  969.582625] EXT4-fs (sda9): mounted filesystem with ordered data mode. Opts: (null)
[  975.174154] EXT4-fs (sda9): mounted filesystem with ordered data mode. Opts: (null)
    [ 1022.820171] traps: console-kit-dae[2685] general protection ip:7f67cdf77bd0 sp:7ffde079f670 error:0 in libgobject-2.0.so.0.4800.2[7f67cdf43000+53000]

One more thing, I have optimus with bumblebee (intel/nvidia) cause I've read somewhere that this problem might be caused by it and during kernel compilation I noticed this error but the compilation carries on with no errors :

Code:
test -e include/linux/autoconf.h -a -e include/config/auto.conf || (            \
        echo;                                                           \
echo "  ERROR: Kernel configuration is invalid.";               \
        echo "         include/linux/autoconf.h or include/config/auto.conf are missing."; \
echo "         Run 'make oldconfig && make prepare' on kernel src to fix it.";     \
        echo;                                                           \
        /bin/false)

And even if I do as it tells, the error doesnt go away but the driver is installed and compiled. (Yes I do have the kernel sources)

Any help would be appreciated cause now my system is unusable ( this message was typed using a temporary shady OS)

Thanks in advance,

What is your sda2?

You may rebuild

Code:
*  sys-auth/consolekit
      Latest version available: 1.1.0-r1
      Latest version installed: 1.1.0-r1
      Size of files: 616 KiB
      Homepage:      https://github.com/ConsoleKit2/ConsoleKit2 https://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/ConsoleKit
Description:   Framework for defining and tracking users, login sessions and seats
      License:       GPL-2

My thoughts: When your consolekit crashes your login is basically lost and you are kicked out of X.

Thanks a lot for your answer, well sda2 is an extended NTFS partition , I'm running chkdsk on it now to see what's going on

I've emerged consolekit but unfortunately, the problem occurred again and it doesn't seem obvious where it come from :?

I think consolekit crashes and kicks you out of your X session. No idea on how to solve that.

Any weird settings in make.conf?

Okay, I did recompile the kernel, upgraded the nvidia driver, emerge consolekit, did some cleaning and I didn't experience a crash up until now, strange to see an issue appear and disappear with no clues to debug it

Thanks for your help, solved!
