It's pretty obvious that KDE's kdm is not yet ready for prime time. That being said, which command should I use on the command line to invoke KDE?

(I've been away from Linux for years, ever since Steve Whatshisface, then president of Microsoft, decided to go after Linux and open source because they had nuttin' to compete with except their huge phalanx of corporate attorneys. I started my open source odyssey back on Gentoo 1.1.).

Hi,

normally you have a login manager which does that. SDDM is recommended.

With startx you need to create file .xinitrc ion your home directory with command exec ck-launch-session startkde

KDM is, in fact, on its way out of Portage (unsupported by upstream since 2015).
