Just sync'd three hours ago:
Code:
gentoo ~ # eix evolution-data-server
* gnome-extra/evolution-data-server
     Available versions:  3.20.5(0/57)^t ~3.20.6(0/57)^t ~3.22.3(0/59)^t {api-doc-extras berkdb +gnome-online-accounts google +gtk +introspection ipv6 kerberos ldap test vala +weather}
     Homepage:            https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/Evolution
     Description:         Evolution groupware backend
Sync and try again.

Code:
gentoo ~ # equery d evolution-data-server
 * These packages depend on evolution-data-server:
app-office/abiword-3.0.1 (eds ? >=gnome-extra/evolution-data-server-3.6.0)
Sounds like an "oops". Stable package in the tree needs a package not in the tree. Maybe the dev meant <= instead. File a bug report.

It looks like the just removed abiword-3.0.0 just required eds, no version
Code:
eds? ( gnome-extra/evolution-data-server )
https://sources.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/gentoo-x86/app-office/abiword/abiword-3.0.0.ebuild?hideattic=0&revision=1.4&view=markup I'd definitely say this is a bug. For abiword, just remove the eds useflag. To determine what blockers you have, please post or pastebin the results of running the emerge in your original post. I tried it but I have a ton of blocks because I block systemd, udev and all the *kits.

=gnome-extra/evolution-data-server-3.18.5.2 is not less than =gnome-extra/evolution-data-server-3.5.3, so it cannot be used to satisfy dependency <gnome-extra/evolution-data-server-3.5.3. If you need more guidance, please post the full output so that we can see why Portage wants an old ebuild.

Hu, there are no ebuilds that low in the tree! It's a bug. https://packages.gentoo.org/packages/gnome-extra/evolution-data-server

3.20.5 is the lowest available! Possibly this is the cause of the bug:
Code:

Changelog

    gnome-extra/evolution-data-server: Remove old

I suspect that OP has some severely outdated package installed that has the dependency and that, back when that package was new, a low enough EDS existed in the tree. If we had the full output (command issued and all its text), we could readily confirm or refute my theory.
