I recently singed up for the gentoo user & dev mailing list. I was getting a few emails a week, now I'm getting fuckloads daily.

I've never used a mailing list before and a little duckduck'going is telling me all about setting them up and little about managing them.

How do I stop my inbox being full of gentoo?

Currently working with gmail, thunderbird & android.

I'm not familiar with the mailing lists, but some allow you to sign up for "digests." That is a single update of some interval such as daily or weekly. You might see if that option exists. That's convenient for receiving a single item, but could make it more difficult to find something.

Most email clients, Gmail and I believe Thunderbird included, allow you to filter and send email to a folder. So you should be able to create a folder and then a rule to drop all email from the list to that folder.

Those would by my first two things to check, depending on the details of your goal.

Im gmail I do something like this (im not subscribed to gentoo, so not sure how messages look there)

- create new label something like gentooXXX

- check how title messages looks from gentoo, in list i use it looks: [mylist-dev] - so its easy to filter
- in search box type [mylist-dev] - in drop down arrow from search -> apply to to label gentooXXX

- be sure that in options gentooXXX is visible in IMAP folders.

And thats all. I did it many years ago, just now took quick look how to do that, should be ok.

U can also unsubscibe and use atom/rss reader, most mailing list support it, it nice too.

Android gmail has a forum/mailing option, a few taps and my new phone is no longer spamming me.

Looking at gmail labels and revisiting rss feeds at the moment.

Thanks
