hello
just a general question.
I have gentoo in command line mode, with fluxbox that I launch with 'startx' command.
for few things, I need a complete web browser, a terminal, and pyhton with tkinter to programm stuffs with window environnements. but mainly I will use gentoo in CLI.
i would like to setup MATE.
but:
I dont want to launch the desktop automatically, is it necessary to use a desktop manager ?
if yes:
with
Code: | /etc/init.d/lightdm start |
do I avoid autorun ?

According to the wiki page for Mate you can use startx - see the manual start section. |

Or you can use xdm "/etc/init.d/xdm start". If you don't add it to rc-update, you can just run it manually with start and stop. |
