Hi all,

a recent update to x11-libs/gtk+-2.24.31-r1 pulls in x11-themes/gnome-themes-standard-3.20.2-r1 and x11-themes/gtk-engines-adwaita-3.20.2

Afterwards some X stuff looks slightly odd: Menu bars are larger than before, menu lists have a white background instead of the usual grey one, the slider looks different and possibly some more.

Downgrading to gtk+2.24.31 and depcleaning (seems necessary, i.e. getting rid of gnome-themes-standard and adwaita) brings back the old behaviour. Any hints? Esp. on how to get the familiar look and feel with the upgraded gtk+?

Thanks a lot, Ralph

Try with a clean user and a clean home directory. Very often old lint files in your home directory causes issues.

Redo the setup for your looks & feel with the desctop environment realted tools or config files

Your theme gets changed to Adwaita. You need to specify other theme for gtk2/3. lxappearance is a small GTK GUI for this if you don't want to do it in the terminal.

Thanks fcl for your link!

Emerging and running lxappearance, selecting 'Raleigh' and letting it create a new .gtkrc-2.0 seems to do the trick. Not sure if all oddities have been cured, but at least I've now some hints where to explore further. Never really cared for themes and the likes.

All the best, Ralph
