i am running Gentoo ~amd64 and use "startx" to launch XFCE
after logging out of XFCE to go back to the tty1, i get a bunch of critical errors about panel widget child missing gobject blahblah
i tried to produce a log or find a log with these errors so i can wgetpaste them, but i could not find in any of the /var/log and ~/. log files
when i power off the machine the screen fills up with capital: CRITICAL ...... in purple, but i can not see what it says because it disappears too fast
it feels like i have a broken system at this moment
does anyone knows where i can find the correct log, or how to start with solving the problem |

That sounds fairly typical of gtk+ based applications. The library designers chose to spew diagnostics on stderr where it can be conveniently ignored, so it is not uncommon for programs that use gtk+ to do things that the library considers improper. I often get spew like that from virt-viewer. You can set an environment variable to promote these to fatal errors if you want to debug them. |
