Love that game !

Conspiracies, human interactions, burning social issues and more

It's pretty hardware-hungry and takes ages to load but after that it runs rather decently,

triple-buffering and other preloaded frames and compositing need to be disabled though - otherwise it gets laggy as it can

(card is a GTX 760)

Agreed, this game is EPIC!!! I have a reasonably decent GPU but only 8gig and even running openbox ... I am using 98% and bad things start happening if anything goes on in the background.

I am doing a rebuild in the new year so moar RAM for this

Definitely more RAM !

after a relatively short time it eats 5.5-7 GB of RAM for me 8O

Does it also takes 3-5 minutes after every reboot (of the system) to start up the game ?

I read that the missing shader cache issues was supposed to only hit the Mesa and AMD users :?

I could cut down loading time significantly by applying a few of the mentioned tweaks:

http://www.gearsongallium.com/?p=3467

You could mitigate the swap pages issue by using a small swap partition and enabling zswap with e.g. lz4 compression and reserving a somewhat bigger portion of RAM for it, I guess

it's at least worth a try

yup it takes ages to load :)
I am making use of a swapfile as I forgo making a swap partition as I am to be in RAM not in virtual memory. The last time I had to enable my swap file was Planatary Annilation & a massive battle. I just need to last to the rebuild (I don't see the point in buying a couple more ddr3 if I am going ddr4 and a newer CPU... sata ports a failing hence the upgrade, its an i7 870 so a really old one...)

It is a very good port and a great single player campaign & cant wait for the vulkan port by feral in the new year.
Its like feral convinced a very recent AAA to give them a chance and they have pulled off a good port, hopefully htre sales offset ferals payement

im getting myself setup because homefront should be ported soon

They didn't really confirm or deny the Vulkan port - it would be great if it ran on Vulkan though, not sure if it would improve the situation of elder card such as mine :?

There are some issue inherent (e.g. during display of Augs videos play - the game tends to become very sluggish afterwards),

invoking the pause menu (ESC) once or twice solves it,

the Hair animation really costs a fortune in terms of performance - had to disable it, glad there's an option to

also for my card I had to lower it to 900p (1400x900) and disable some more fancy effects

The game is my newest love on Windows, cannot get enough of it.
never played a game on Linux though.
Do I need Steam on Gentoo for that and a separate Steam account there?
Probably dumbest question here ....
What do I emerge for a Steam on Gentoo?

Sorry again for this petty post but I usually play games on Windows only like I said.

Steam yes, but no second account and no second purchase of the games needed. Everything works with your existing account, you can even login from multiple machines at the same time.

Steam on gentoo wiki

No second puchase? But what about the games files? They gotta get installed on
Linux too. Don't I need a second copy of the game? Because I need my DXMD
to stay on Windows.

You have to redownload the games.

Yes, since different binaries will be used (it's a "native" port without e.g. WINE)

Looking forward to it :)

Does it also crash for you after the new patch ?

The game seems more optimized but at the same time more prone to issues

Maybe issue with steam and alsa?
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/4139

Can you try the workarounds mentioned on the linked issue?

No problems with other games. And afaik I tried to preload libs in game start script itself. Not steam. Gonna try in steam too when I get home.

Love it, hate the missing subtitles, though. The load time is universal. I bring a tablet to faff with while waiting.

I'm wondering if anyone has recent experiences with DE:MD on AMD hardware? Last I heard it ran like a dog on AMD graphics cards at least. The Humble store has it on sale for another day or two, and I would pick it up if it would be at least OK on AMD.
