fedeliallalinea to the rescue !

i will try your solution in a second, but could it be that the power loss that happened last night might have broken my system?

your work-around helped and sys-fs/cryptsetup successfully compiled.

however i am scared that the power loss i had last night, might have caused a broken (openssl) system, how can i make sure my system is not broken?

farmer.ro,

You need to check one filesystem at a time.
fsck can make things much worse than they already are. Read the man page and run it with the option not to fix anything.
If it passes, you know that the filesystem is self consistent.

That says nothing about the data the filesystem contains/contained.
If there is a problem with the portage tree or distfiles, emerge will spot that as it validates checksums and file sizes at emerge time.

For other user data, its up to the user to keep checksums or backups or both that can be used to validate things.
Personally, I think you were unlucky last time. That's the first extX I've seen that had all the superblocks wiped out.
