Is there a way to display WebP images in Firefox? www-client/firefox-49.0, for example. Any addons or unofficial patches?

There are userscripts around to decode WebP using the WebM video codec, though I'm not sure it'd handle newer features like lossless and animated-webp.

Do you mean scripts for GreaseMonkey? Can you recommend anything?

Do I understand correctly that
1. The support via media-libs/libwebp has just been added.
2. To use it I only need to add --with-system-webp to the configure stage.
3. I need Mercurial sources for that.
4. Source tarballs https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/50.0b11/source/firefox-50.0b11.source.tar.xz from 28-Oct-2016 or https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/49.0.2/source/firefox-49.0.2.source.tar.xz from 20-Oct-2016 are recent enough to work too.

Please correct me, if I'm wrong.
