I'm having a terrible problem with Chromium now. The application runs, but it gives an "Aw Snap!" error no matter what page you try to show, including its own internal stuff like chrome://help.

I've tried the latest stable and the latest ~amd64. I've googled for ideas (can't find anything in this forum - did I miss it?). On Ubuntu and Fedora forums I've found ideas like trying to run with --single-process or --no-sandbox, which apparently can solve the problem for some other people (on other distros). Doesn't help me. In fact, with --single-process, the app crashes with a floating point exception.

Thankfully Chromium is not my main browser, Firefox is, but I would like to be able to use it. Hasn't any Gentoo person suffered from this and figured it out? :(

Here's my --info:
Code:

Tried doing an emerge -uDN chromium, but this didn't solve the problem. (The -u brought me back down to stable, fwiw)

Didn't think of this before, but here's what comes out on the terminal when I run from command line. I should note that to all appearances, dbus is running.
Code:
[22702:22715:0902/181306:ERROR:bus.cc(432)] Failed to connect to the bus: Failed to connect to socket /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket: No such file or directory

My guess would be the webkit is broken and needs to be rebuilt.

However, if you really want to try a shotgun approach, emerge -e chromium will almost certainly solve the problem. Unfortunately, you won't know which program was broken.

Apologies if I take a while to respond. I'm currently working on the dematerialization circuit for my blue box.

Well, Doctor, you were right.... emerge -e fixed it, and of course I still don't know what was wrong :?
I wonder why emerge -uDN didn't fix it, though? </rhetorical>
Anyway... thanks.

You need to upgrade media-libs/harfbuzz to at least 1.2.7.

Could you provide a citation for why this is the right solution?

Upgrading media-libs/harfbuzz solved the "Aw, snap" for me, also. Without rebuilding anything else. Seems like a missing dependency.
