PostPosted: Sat Oct 29, 2016 5:02 pm    Post subject: GUI for intel graphic card [SOLVED] Reply with quote

Hi all,

I just got a new laptop after 7 years, so lately I am very active :)

One of the problems I am encountering is that now I have an Intel graphic card instead of NVIDIA. I really liked the nvidia-settings tool, and I was wondering if there is something similar for intel or general.

What I am interested in is the GUI where I can easily control, set, and connect to my TV through HDMI.

Any help/suggestion is appreciated.

Thanks!

Efo

Ok i had to test with my windows laptop with nvidia and connect to my plasma tv with hdmi.
And immediately my laptop was showing on tv. On hdmi1 that i have choose from tv.

If your intel graphics works you should probably only connect laptop to tv with hdmi and your set.

I think you must check your tv settings where you hdmi input/output are.

Hi fhede,

Thank you for the reply. What I liked about nvidia-settings is that I can change the resolution on my TV from it, I can choose whether having dual monitors or just one, ...

It is pretty neat, and it would be nice to be able to do similar things on the fly with other cards.

GUI? Don't know about that, isn't there lxrandr which is frontend for xrandr? Anyhow, xrandr can do all of that for you, from command line.

Hi Buffoon,

Thanks for the reply. I think that's what I was looking for. I will test it later on (I am in the weeds with sound card right now).

Just to get my definitions straight, isnt a frontend part of a GUI?

Thx,

Efo

There are command line tools, and there are GUI frontends for some of them. Can't answer your question because the term GUI is not defined in a clear manner in your post.

I think I just got confused by the beginning of your post "GUI?...". I guess you questioned the incompleteness of my "GUI statement".

Hi Buffoon,

I tested "lxrandr" and works well, I also installed "arandr" for dual screen (had to use version 0.1.9 beacuse 0.1.7.1 complained about xrandr missing - bug?).

Thanks again for your help.

I have had the same issue, and you are right. there is the Bug 595050. I have voted for the bug.

Cheers!
