sometimes fail but in general works for me, just try to reconnect...
do you have installed net-fs/sshfs?, it's needed and specially for file manager integration
Code:
* Found these USE flags for kde-misc/kdeconnect-1.0.1:
 U I
 - - app       : Enable experimental kcapp frontend
 - - debug     : Enable extra debug codepaths, like asserts and extra output. If you want to get
                 meaningful backtraces see
                 https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Project:Quality_Assurance/Backtraces
 - - handbook  : Enable handbooks generation for packages by KDE
+ + telepathy : Enable net-libs/telepathy-qt support to receive text messages and respond to them
 - - test      : Workaround to pull in packages needed to run with FEATURES=test. Portage-2.1.2
handles this internally, so don't set it in make.conf/package.use anymore
 - - wayland   : Enable kwin_wayland support for mousepad plugin using kde-frameworks/kwayland

android kdeconnect 1.4.4

Thanks for the tip. I downgraded to 0.9 version on the desktop and version 1.4 for the client from f-droid (https://f-droid.org/repository/browse/?fdfilter=kdeconnect&fdid=org.kde.kdeconnect_tp). The desktop can now see the android device.
