Hi,
first, I'm not sure whether my post belongs here or to 'installing'. Feel free to move it, moderators.
I have a skylake based intel nuc box, and I still experiencing un-smooth, 'micro-stuttering' window frames when moving around in gnome, it just doesn't feel 'right'.
My complaint is not about speed, everything runs bleeding fast.

Try to add this in xorg.conf:
Code: | Section "Extensions"
Option "XVideo" "Disable"
EndSection
Section "Device"
Identifier "Intel Graphics"
Driver "intel"
Option "AccelMethod" "sna"
Option "TearFree" "true"
Option "DRI" "true"
EndSection |

It get's worse: with kernel 4.8.5-gentoo I get:
Code: | Direct firmware load for i915/skl_dmc_ver1_26.bin failed with error -2
|
What's going on, intel?

@Wallsandfences
There's a new entry in Gentoo Intel wiki for that issue
https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Intel
Code: | If you are using Kabylake, Skylake or Broxton Intel Graphics, install sys-kernel/linux-firmware.
root #emerge --ask sys-kernel/linux-firmware
Otherwise you might see errors such as
kernel: i915 0000:00:02.0: Direct firmware load for i915/skl_dmc_ver1.bin failed with error -2
kernel: i915 0000:00:02.0: Failed to load DMC firmware [https://01.org/linuxgraphics/intel-linux-graphics-firmwares], disabling runtime power management.
in dmesg. Include the files required for your GPU in the kernel, in this case
Device Drivers --->
Generic Driver Options --->
-*- Userspace firmware loading support
[*] Include in-kernel firmware blobs in kernel binary
(i915/skl_dmc_ver1.bin)

I saw that I had an additional '/' after 'firmware'
I changed that, but to no avail.

Code: | Your kernel
[*] Include in-kernel firmware blobs in kernel binary │ │
│ │ (i915/skl_dmc_ver1.bin i915/skl_guc_ver6.bin) External firmware |
Code: | Your dmesg
Direct firmware load for i915/skl_dmc_ver1_26.bin failed with error -2 |
In you dmesg it says i915/skl_dmc_ver1_26.bin and in your kernel you have i915/skl_dmc_ver1.bin i915/skl_guc_ver6.bin
Notice the ver1_26 from dmesg and compare to your kernel. |

Hi,
it is softlinked:
Code: |
/lib/firmware/i915
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 8928 13. Jun 09:29 skl_dmc_ver1_26.bin
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 19 13. Jun 09:30 skl_dmc_ver1.bin -> skl_dmc_ver1_26.bin
|
and the blob is created according to 'make'-output |

I had the same issue you had and I solved it by doing that when I built the driver into the kernel.
Perhaps it doesn't accept it when it's softlinked. |
