I know this might appear trivial, however....
I have just upgraded my old Nvidia Graphics Card because of old driver conflicts with world updates.
I have a nice spanking new AMD RX480 which I got going with a 4.7.5 kernel from kernel.org, and the amdgpu Gentoo wiki.
I like to have the 'emergence' theme for the terminals, but that will not load now.
I have the same settings in genkernel.conf for the initramfs as before, and have checked through the kernel settings as per the wiki for fbflash, but no go.
I suspect it is because the amdgpudrm service takes over from the VEASA VGA service as per this in dmesg
Code:
fb0: VESA VGA frame buffer device
[    3.891651] fb: switching to amdgpudrmfb from VESA VGA
[    4.362801] [drm] fb mappable at 0xE0AA6000
[    4.362807] [drm] fb depth is 24
[    4.362846] fbcon: amdgpudrmfb (fb0) is primary device
[    4.901056] amdgpu 0000:01:00.0: fb0: amdgpudrmfb frame buffer device

Has anyone any ideas on how to fix this, so I can enjoy the eye candy and impress my friends, well the one I have?

Ah ha! After I posted I thought I might try the 4.7.4-gentoo kernel which had failed for me previously, and I now get the splash, so the 4.7.5 from kernel.org would need to be patched with the gentoo patches to work.
Still all OK now.
Very pretty!
