Ubisoft gives away a car racing mmo game for free, called the_crew. All you need is to claim it with the uplay client in the next days. Its a time limited offer. Too bad i missed prince of persia, sad face.

So whats the way to play the Crew with gentoo?
The crew seems to be playable with 5 of 23 gb downloaded content on windows 10, with the uplay client, with 660m / 2GB vram gpu from nvidia.
I have not tried this yet? It comes to my mind, install it with uplay, install steam on windows, get steam to recognize it, and than install steam on gentoo.
The other more easy approach seems to be to get uplay working with gentoo.

Has anone ever got uplay working and the_crew working with recent unstable wine in gentoo tree?

Playing on windows 10 is not an option. Windows 10 annoys me, becuase of the fact, you can not uninstall edge browser, and the start menu looks like from windows vista which i unisntalled after 3 days after use. Windows 10 is like windows vista and windows 95 in my eyes, with the mixture of beeing unable to uninstall software like google does with recent nexus 4 factory images.
I have two sata drive bays on my notebook and they are occupied with first SSD with gentoo and luks / lvm, and secondary bay with 1tb hdd with luks / lvm with data volume. There may be space for windows 10 but i do not trust windows 10 and when I use windows 10, i remove both drives and plug in the 320gb hdd with windows 10.
I have not tried yet chainloading that 320gb windows 10 drive with an external case. I do not want to do that becuase of security concerns. Microsoft is evil. Wifi password is transmitted, remote access control for newbies is enabled so an administrator can troubleshoot your box, yes its enabled by default ... and other issues ... |

I installed / downloaded 6GB of 24GB of the game in windwos 10 with uplay.
I was surprised to still see the issues from the old days:
I was unable to knock down people walking on the pedestrain, they jump in an instantly fast manner away.
Cars do not crash properly, they polygons of the cars merge but do not crash as they should. The 3d models or the enginge do not properly recognize when the cars touch each other
The speed factor, let's call it acceleration is not that proper implemented. Also speeding up / breaking down. Some speeds are much slower as they are in real life expierence. The speedo meter is just broken.
The steering is partly broken for some areas.
As for the old days ~year 2000 need for speed series, drive through anything, hard to hit anything,
The only improvement are some more people near the road, animated cows, some animated plants.
Cons: It depends on a network connection to a server probably to be played. The game itself is too big. My linux installation without the distfiles are 32GB for everything, including user data. The game needs ~25-30gb. I only use / buy 120GB SSDS here and from a data usage perspective thats nuts.

I recommend that you guys claim the game for free in the short time period if desired. Than we have time to figure out on how to get it going in linux

Can anyone check to see if its in steam-linux and if you can manage to unlock in uplay, and transfer the game to steam than? |
