I'm at the step:
" Installing the sources
The core around which all distributions are built is the Linux kernel. It is the layer between the user programs and the system hardware. Gentoo provides its users several possible kernel sources. A full listing with description is available at the Kernel overview page.
For x86-based systems Gentoo recommends the sys-kernel/gentoo-sources package.
Choose an appropriate kernel source and install it using emerge:
root #emerge --ask sys-kernel/gentoo-sources
This will install the Linux kernel sources in /usr/src/ in which a symbolic link called linux will be pointing to the installed kernel source: "
Question: How do I select an "appropriate kernel" prior to running "emerge --ask sys-kernel/gentoo-sources"?
Thanks |

There are many kernels with difference patch set, you can see here. But for beginnin gentoo-sources is best choice.
Once you have a gentoo up and running you can try install another kernel if you want. _________________ Questions are guaranteed in life; Answers aren't. |
