I have horrible screen tearing in KDE 5 Plasma.

tweaking the KDE compositor in almost every possible way did not solve the tearing.

i am using NVIDIA GTX 970 proprietary drivers, and for a solution i thought about using Wayland.

Question: is Wayland use able already, if so, how does one properly set up Wayland (google did not help much)

Question: for KDE Plasma with Xorg, is there any software that will stop the screen tearing (vsync) beside the KDE compositor?
i know Compton works fine with XFCE, but i don't know if it works with KDE

Nvidia proprietary = forget about Wayland

I use a NVIDIA GTX 950 with stable proprietary drivers and have no tearing issues in videos (using plex, mpv, vlc, etc...) or steam. I add this file:
/etc/profile.d/tearfree_kde.sh
export __GL_YIELD="USLEEP"

Make the above file executable.

Solved with:

Code:
/etc/profile.d/tearfree_kde.sh
export __GL_YIELD="USLEEP"
chmod +x /etc/profile.d/Tearing.sh

Thanks!

Very nice! This would make a good addition to the Gentoo-Wiki KDE Troubleshooting section for other Nvidia users, if you're interested.
