I am attempting a new install of KDE Plasma (emerge kde-plasma/plasma-dev), but this keeps choking on ffmpeg ("The following required USE flags are unsatisfied: cpu_flags_x86_sse? ...).

I don't need ffmpeg on this installation, but I have been unsuccessful in either setting up the cpu flags so that it will install or in masking it.

My preference right now would be to mask installation of ffmpeg. I've tried writing the following to /etc/portage/package.mask in file ffmpeg:

=media-video/ffmpeg-2.8.6

but the installation still demands to have ffmpeg.
Any recommendations?

rvjohnson71,

Why can't you have cpu_flags_x86_sse?
Thats
Code:
 CPU_FLAGS_X86="sse"
Its a space separated list, just like USE. You may have others too.

A news item offers
Code:
To help users enable the correct USE flags, we are providing a Python
script that generates the correct value using /proc/cpuinfo. It can be
found in the app-portage/cpuinfo2cpuflags package:

  $ emerge -1v app-portage/cpuinfo2cpuflags
  $ cpuinfo2cpuflags-x86

sse goes back to the about the PentiumII, so its unlikely you don't have it
