They've killed the Defender.

But it gets worse.

The "replacement" looks a lot like the LR Evoque, Ford Explorer, Fiat Renegade and a Mini Cooper had a crack baby with AIDS and Zika. Can you see the British military driving that around? It's funny for a brief moment until reality kicks in.

But wait, that's not all. Won't someone think of the Duke of Marlborough? Next thing you know, every tattooed, thick-armed Steve is going to be driving one.

The best looking SUV is the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

I prefer the boxy style of real off-road SUVs. If perceived / actual reliability in an LR were a bit better, I'd buy one. But with the reputation, I just don't want to get stranded. :(

I agree. Unfortunately, it's also a piece of junk.

Edit: I thought you were talking about the latest model (2016).

Defender was a shit vehicle. Something you'd see in the 1930s.

Reliable, but an otherwise unwieldy behemoth. I suppose it would depend on intended utilization.

It's like they wanted to make a Defender, but couldn't decide on how to not have it look like crap inside and out.

Have you ever driven a Defender? It isn't nice nor is it rugged.

You'd be the first I've heard say the Defender is not rugged. I disagree wrt "nice." Obviously subjective. And no, I have not driven one, which isn't particularly relevant to much.

The Brits left quite a lot of Defenders when they left India in 1947. Yes, the one's they stopped making is exactly the same thing they had in 1947.

They're unreliable piece of shits.

So, your thesis is that after over half a century of continuous operation with, to put it nicely, perhaps not the best of care, they can develop reliability issues? Exactly how is that a mark against the type when most vehicles are literally scrapped long before reaching that age?

While the body was largely carried over, the drivetrain was not.

Pieces, plural, of shit, singular, remember to pluralize properly; after all you were reported to the grammar police earlier, evidently for using a period when a comma would have sufficed.

I think you misunderstand what I said. They were in that condition when they brought them over. Like from day 1.

If the drive train was improved, then it was by the same workers who preferred striking to working. Does, the name Rover not mean anything to you?

I offer my sincerest apologies to the grammar police. I promise to use proper punctuation next time.

No misunderstanding, just observing the bias in your viewpoint.

Congratulations, you have successfully identified union labor, point being what exactly?

Making X lines of substandard vehicles does not preclude making Y lines of higher quality vehicles, especially if those vehicles are effectively higher quality due to a relatively lower level of technical sophistication in certain areas.
