Hi there,
I have a machine at work that runs linux for everything except cad software, for which I run windows in vbox. I recently bit on the free upgrade to windows 10 and that was its own project I won't go into. Anyway now that I have upgraded vbox to 5.1 and windows from 8 to 10, the auto-resize which I found so useful no longer works. In device manager, it says vga adapter for windows 8+ is broken. I have installed the new additions from the guest additions cd (this got high speed usb working). I have read that having direct3d on when you install will break autoresize, but the guest additions installer doesn't allow me to de-select that. I have also read work arounds where people manually set video resolutions they would like eg:
Code: |
vboxmanage setextradata 28110e4c-5d82-43a5-9d5b-befb1d7aef52 CustomVideoMode1 1912x1000x32
|
but this doesn't work. Neither does trying this when the vm is running
Code: |
vboxmanage controlvm 28110e4c-5d82-43a5-9d5b-befb1d7aef52 setvideomodehint 1912 1000 32
|
any help on how to get either auto resize back or else to hard set a resolution that will fit the real estate I need it to?
THX! I am reluctant to upgrade my other windows vms on other machines if this will break them all. _________________ These go to eleven. |

I do not know how Windows 10 works inside a VBox, but in Windows 7 and below it was only possible to install DirectX in safe-mode (otherwise it was de-selected). Has this been changed? When autoscroll has been working under a previous version of VirtualBox, you may downgrade the version and block all newer versions by now or look at the VirtualBox forums for help. Anyway, good luck! |

I don't think the solution is there but, in the VirtualBox Setup window (not the machine one) there is a Display section who allow to give an hint to the virtual machine about the resolution. _________________ Paul |
