I emerged a new emacs version and then ran app-admin/emacs-updater-1.15. It fails with this error:
Code:
* Assigning 2 files to packages ...
* Error running qfile pipeline

Any debugging hints will be gratefully received.

[SOLVED] With emacs-25, emacs-updater seems to work. I'm not sure what changed. However, I agree with Fred Krogh (below) that emacs-25 had display/GTK problems. However, emacs-25.1 with the current graphics packages seems to now work. I need emacs-25 since app-emacs/ess doesn't work with emacs-24. [/SOLVED]

I'm stuck on this too. If I select emacs-25 and run emacs-updater it seems to update things just fine, but emacs doe not display things properly. If I run emacs-updater again I get
Code:
* Assigning 17 files to packages ...
* Error running qfile pipeline
If I select emacs-24 the updater works, and if run the updater again it gives the same error. The difference is that emacs-24 actually works.
