mkv subtitles VLC

hi, I have noticed that with the same mkv files , smplayer reproduces subtitles good ( it also allows me to choose what I want to subtitle ) while VLC allows me to choose the subtitle but then by mistake, instead of a single error also do not set any subtitles , but in the end the movie is seen well.
here are the errors :
translate from Italian means :
" It failed to indentificare the audio / video codec "
