I can't seem to solve the following blocking.

Code:
# emerge --update --deep --newuse @world -p

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild  N     ] media-libs/phonon-4.9.0  USE="gstreamer qt4 qt5 (-aqua) -debug -designer -pulseaudio -vlc (-zeitgeist)" ABI_X86="(64) -32 (-x32)"
[ebuild  N     ] media-libs/phonon-gstreamer-4.9.0  USE="alsa network qt4 qt5 -debug"
[blocks B      ] <dev-qt/qtwebkit-4.10.4:4[gstreamer] ("<dev-qt/qtwebkit-4.10.4:4[gstreamer]" is blocking media-libs/phonon-gstreamer-4.9.0)

According to https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Qt/FAQ#Why_do_I_get_blockers_when_trying_to_emerge_Qt.3F I need both gstreamer and icu use flags if I want html5. (I have set gstreamer and icu globally in make.conf.)

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Well, from that output, it says it needs a newer version of qtwebkit, at least 4.10.4 or higher if you want qtwebkit with gstreamer flag enabled...
So you may want to see what is preventing you from to updating to qtwebkit:5 (as both 5.5.1-r1 : 5 and 5.6.1 : 5 appears to have been marked stable, 4.10.4 appears to be masked, so that's out)

I had this issue, too. I have qtwebkit-4.8.7:4, and 5.6.1:5

I had to set the -gstreamer USE flag for <=qtwebkit-4.10.4 and the block was resolved. It's not ideal/kind of hacky, but the two packages on my system that specifically use qtwebkit:4 don't have any use for gstreamer, so it doesn't affect anything negatively. This still leaves gstreamer enabled for qtwebkit:5.

Html5 media works just fine for me. Pretty sure Firefox and Chrome don't even use qtwebkit, if either of those is your web browser.

Epiphany (Web) use Webkit. It is not sufficiant for Html5 work in this browser. The gstreamer USE flag in webkit-gtk must be enabled and some gst-plugins emerged for Html5 work in Epiphany.

Yes,
Code:
echo "<dev-qt/qtwebkit-4.10.4:4 -gstreamer" >> /etc/portage/package.use
should help.
Current Software should using qtwebkit-5 (not the old 4).

Solved.

Thank you replicity and Josef.95 for the use flag
Code:
<dev-qt/qtwebkit-4.10.4:4 -gstreamer

Logicien thanks for the reminder that if I turn gstreamer off for everything I'll have Html5 issues.
