I have been trying to install Plasma 5 on a Hardened Gentoo installation on a VMWare machine, but I am facing issues.

The first issue is that after successful "emerge plasma-meta" and configuring X, I run startx to get a black screen with only a mouse cursor. If I use "sddm", I get a black screen without even a cursor. I have googled this problem, and some people reported success by adding sddm to the video group. I have tried this fix, but it didn't workout for me.

The second issue is that I have failing packages when "emerge kde-apps-meta", one application fails to compile: "chemical-mime-data"

This is the "emerge --info" output: http://bpaste.net/show/28e32c0bbb71

Log for chemical-mime-data: http://bpaste.net/show/a31782d5bd4a

I have fixed the "chemical-mime-data" issue by adding the following use flags:
media-gfx/imagemagick png svg

The black screen issue is still unresolved.

This problem was already discussed on the forum in several threads.
You can find it for example here:
