I also hit now the error. I have 2 machines, older one with 2 xeons and 2x nvidia 1080 TI cards and plasma works and I can use steam engine for games, no issues.
I have second new mobile server build (mini-itx 18 core xeon with 1x 1080 TI) and while on:
Code: | zangetsu@mobile-server ~/steam $ eselect opengl list
Available OpenGL implementations:
[1] nvidia
[2] xorg-x11 *
|
It works, but I cannot get steam working:
Code: | Installing breakpad exception handler for appid(steam)/version(0)
libGL error: unable to load driver: swrast_dri.so
libGL error: failed to load driver: swrast |
When I switched opengl to nvidia, the issue here described about plasma cannot use/access opengl occured. I am now going to see what is the difference in my installations and will report back. On the machine where it works I deffinetely didn't do any kind of scripting in bash I simply followed installation.
I noticed few facts on the machine which has problems, but didn't check back against the working one:
my user is not part of video group
ssdm user is part of video group
I use global opengl use flag
Now I will check the working machine. _________________ Emperor wants to control outer space Yoda wants to explore inner space that's the fundamental difference between good and bad sides of the Force |

I'm actually have an nvidia card (GeForce GTX 460 SE) and I'm happy using plasma 5 with sddm, and opengl set on nvidia.
I have the problem with the black screen on sddm start since I upgraded KDE4, but in my system is fixed deleting this file:
/lib/udev/nvidia-udev.sh
Each time nvidia-drivers are updated I have to remember to delete it.
I don't know if this could help anyone, please make a backup of the file just in case. |

I'm no NVidia user, but it seems this file was last changed due to bug 454740. |
