after rebuilding my kernel with the correct drivers installed, r8169 for my Realtek RTL8101E and ath5k for my Qualcom atheros AR242x / AR2542x, nither my wifi nor my ethernet devices show up when i execute ip addr but when i execute lspci -k both devices are displayed. how can i make these devices useable?

ps i had to rebuild my kernel because it did not include the network device drivers

I fixed the issue myself, I needed to add the Toshiba specific acpi driver

Could you post the specific kernel CONFIG option that you needed, its kconfig user-visible name, the output of uname -mr, and the lspci -k output for the network cards in a working kernel? Other users might find your post months or years later and benefit from your discovery. If you document exactly what is needed now, you can save them some work then. This can save them the frustration of lost Wisdom of the Ancients.

Also, it is traditional to mark a thread as solved by editing the title of its opening post so that users viewing the index know your problem has been solved. Posting a response titled "Solved" is helpful for users who read the thread to the end, but does not affect the index view.
