When I try to open a flash animation saved to the local disk, the browser opens a save file dialog. What should I do to make it play it?

www-client/chromium-51.0.2704.103
www-plugins/chrome-binary-plugins-51.0.2704.106

AMD64, if it matters.

Flash plugin is visible in the list. Same result for any of "Run all plugin content"/"Detect and run important"/"Let me choose" and for "Always allowed to run" on/off.

UPDATE: Same for x11-misc/shared-mime-info-1.4 and 1.6

Solution from http://superuser.com/questions/726789/flash-files-swf-prompts-for-download-instead-of-opening :

Change the following lines in /usr/share/mime/packages/freedesktop.org.xml:

Code:
<mime-type type="application/vnd.adobe.flash.movie">
...
<alias type="application/x-shockwave-flash"/>

to
Code:
<mime-type type="application/x-shockwave-flash">
...
<alias type="application/vnd.adobe.flash.movie"/>

(In other words, swap the name and one of aliases.)

and run
Code:
update-mime-database /usr/share/mime

Or in the patch format:
Code:
4577c4577
<   <mime-type type="application/x-shockwave-flash">
---
>   <mime-type type="application/vnd.adobe.flash.movie">
4583c4583
<     <alias type="application/vnd.adobe.flash.movie"/>
---
>     <alias type="application/x-shockwave-flash"/>

Can anybody explain whose fauilt is this? Do all browsers fail to check for aliases? Where should I send a bug, to Chrome and Firefox or to Freedesktop?

Nice find! On the occasions I needed to play a local file, I just launched 'python2 -m SimpleHTTPServer 8081' in its directory and viewed it on localhost.
