As an alternative user, that I either 'su' to or 'ssh -Y' to, I can not seem to change the default web browser.
According to https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Firefox I did the following
Code:
xdg-mime default firefox.desktop x-scheme-handler/http
xdg-mime default firefox.desktop x-scheme-handler/https
xdg-mime default firefox.desktop text/html

However I still am getting seamonkey as the default to the following:

To view my Slngbox on my Gentoo system I run slingbox.sh:
Code:
#! /bin/bash
xdg-open /home/webviewer/slingbox.htm &

The slingbox.htm file:
Code:
<iframe src="http://slingplayer.slingbox.com/embedded/slingplayer.php" frameborder="0" width="1440" height="900"></iframe>

I also created ~/.local/share/applications/firefox.desktop:
Code:
[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Version=1.0
Type=Application
NoDisplay=true
Exec=/usr/lib64/firefox/firefox %u
Name=Firefox
Comment=Custom definition for Firefox

The Slingbox viewer is still showing up in seamonkey (which I have on the system for other reasons).

Any idea on how to change the default web browser?

I checked the environment variable $BROWSER and it was not set. I Tried
Code:
export BROWSER=/usr/bin/firefox

Then I ran slingbox.sh and still launches seamonkey.
