This is a variation on the "USB thumb drives not notified via device notifier" problem.

I have three SD card USB readers.

Occasionally when inserting into the PC, KDE device notifier picks it up, but generally not.

Dmesg finds it:

Code:

[96218.783461] sd 11:0:0:2: [sdf] Attached SCSI removable disk
[96218.786693] sd 11:0:0:0: [sdd] Attached SCSI removable disk
[96218.787716] sd 11:0:0:1: [sde] Attached SCSI removable disk
[96218.788701] sd 11:0:0:3: [sdg] Attached SCSI removable disk
[96218.789727] sd 11:0:0:4: [sdh] Attached SCSI removable disk

[96221.362156] usb 3-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=0, Product=1, SerialNumber=2
[96221.362157] usb 3-1: Product: USB Storage
[96221.362159] usb 3-1: SerialNumber: 000000009744
[96221.363805] usb-storage 3-1:1.0: USB Mass Storage device detected
[96221.364003] scsi host12: usb-storage 3-1:1.0
[96222.366261] scsi 12:0:0:0: Direct-Access     Generic  STORAGE DEVICE   9744 PQ: 0 ANSI: 0
[96222.366457] sd 12:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg4 type 0

df -h finds it:

Code:

Filesystem                                   Size  Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda3                                    886G  586G  255G  70% /
devtmpfs                                      10M     0   10M   0% /dev
tmpfs                                        1.6G  1.5M  1.6G   1% /run
shm                                          7.9G   17M  7.8G   1% /dev/shm
cgroup_root                                   10M     0   10M   0% /sys/fs/cgroup
/dev/sda1                                     31M   22M  7.5M  75% /boot
/dev/md1                                     1.8T  1.7T   75G  96% /home
none                                         7.9G   84K  7.9G   1% /run/user/1000

But KDE device notifier insists that no device is attached.

How do I persuade it to play nicely?

If I remove the SD card reader and plug in a normal USB thumbdrive, KDE immediately picks it up.

Aren't they supposed to be treated the same by the OS?

Thanks, Ian
