Hi guys,
my regular update procedure brought in sys-apps/sysvinit-2.88-r9 (updated from -r7) today. The latest version also brings a new /etc/inittab file which obviously changes the /sbin/rc command to /sbin/openrc. Whilst I don't really get why another executable in debian with the same name trickles down to gentoo, I can handle that and it's not really a big deal.
What I don't understand though, are two other changes in the new /etc/inittab. Whilst the old entries were reading as follows: Code: | l0s:0:wait:/sbin/halt -dhp
l6r:6:wait:/sbin/reboot -dk | the new suggested entries now read as follows: Code: | l0s:0:wait:/sbin/halt -dhnp
l6r:6:wait:/sbin/reboot -dkn | In mother words, the new inittab adds the -n option which, according to the manual, stands for "Don't sync before reboot or halt. Note that the kernel and storage drivers may still sync"
I don't understand that change and would even think that it's dangerous. Probably somebody in the know is able to shed some light on this.
Many thanks Atom2

Ant,
thanks for the pointer - now that change makes sense. I'll go with it then.
Thanks again Atom2 |
