|
|
I have an entry in my fstab for a removable device to mount it to a specific directory. Every time device notifier mounted
my device it would mount it according to my fstab entry. After a recent update it no longer works. It mounts it in the
/run/media folder.
some stats:
Code: |
Linux localhost 4.4.6-gentoo #3 SMP Sun May 15 12:45:38 CDT 2016 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790K CPU @ 4.00GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
kde5
blkid entry:
/dev/mapper/luks-e8c44847-c98b-47b2-9238-f3f52f354c50: UUID="b7b7eff4-7366-408d-bfa2-5627a324ef1a" TYPE="ext4"
fstab entry:
UUID="b7b7eff4-7366-408d-bfa2-5627a324ef1a" /home/serg/special ext4 noatime,noauto,nofail

I am surprise that desktop removal medias management follow fstab options.They generally follow their own rules that you can configure with a desktop gui but, I do not use Kde.
Autofs is a good utility to mount removal devices dynamically. It can mount the media when the mount point is accessed only and unmount it after an idle time. It manage permissions like fstab. I use Autofs to mount and unmount network shares of Samba. The shares are generally already unmounted at shutdown. It make the halt faster.
For me, fstab is more appropriate for the static mounts of the non removal hard drives that you need access all the time. I never use any user home directory as a mount point for fstab and autofs. _________________ Paul |
