I'd like to play with few of the older versions of KDE4. Of special interest are 4.1.x, 4.2.x, and anything between 4.5.x..4.12.x
Are there any ebuilds for that anywhere ? Or (better) a complete Portage tree archive of the time ? |

If you want the older ebuilds, they're in the attic
You should be able to find older portage snapshots by digging around on whichever local mirror/s you use (or you may have one on your rootfs from install.)
Though if you just want to stay with KDE-4, masking as shown will keep you with the latest 4.x in portage. |

I really want to install a bunch of different KDE versions on bunch of computers for play - Anything between early KDE4 to present day KDE5
Now, how can i use the attic, so that i install the "kde meta" package with everything from the (for example) 4.1 version and not kde-meta 4.1 + everything else it pulls in current ? |

Since the git migration there is more than one attic to raid for relics when you get the urge to do a bit of archeology; though cloning the repository is probably easier whenever more than a few files are desired.
Also, just to note, the ebuilds and supporting files thus retrieved would technically be unsupported, aside from "upgrade to a current version". |

| Toolchain, dependencies would need to be from the same snapshot as those old KDE packages, especially if you really want to try out 4.1 and 4.2, but also the less ancient versions. Otherwise you will be fighting configure and compile time errors. |

That does make things easier, sometimes, but it is not necessarily always the case; for instance with regard to bugfixes which were added to the tree after the packages of direct interest which would have depended on them were already removed. |
