Hi all

As per subject, plasmashell frequently crashes when my mouse is over the taskbar. After a few seconds, it restarts and life goes on. There is also a popup window.

Screenshot is here: http://imgur.com/TP6X2sL .

My desktop is arranged with programs and status bar at top (borrowed from OS/2) and taskbar at bottom (borrowed from Win95).

Sometimes when my mouse is over the taskbar, the plasma shell crashes:
Code:

Executable: plasmashell PID: 19715 Signal: Segmentation fault (11) Time: 2016/05/08 22:34:10

Is is just me, or is this a common problem? Am on AMD64. (first box in .sig), Nvidia drivers Installed versions: 361.28

Is there a known fix?

Thanks, Ian

Same here on 2 nearly identical machines.
I am using nvidia-drivers-304.131 because of legacy chipset support (GeForce 6150SE).
Turned off compositing completely and selected opengl xorg-x11 instead of nvidia but this does not help.
KDE4 runs stable on these machines, however also without compositing.
Plasmashell crashes frequently on mouse over the taskbar, or sometimes on mouse over icons on screen.

I am experiencing the same problems. I am running with nvidia-drivers-361.28.

I found a kind of solution, that at least partially works:
When I disable "show information" in window tray settings, the crashes do not happen so frequently.
I think it is the small application preview window that uses similar things like compostion (OpenGL?) which causes instability with the old nvidia drivers.
However some instability remains, so I find myself stuck at KDE4 for stability.

I've experienced similar issues with the nouveau driver. For me it helped to disable the "gles2" USE flag and recompile the affected packages.

I know you're using the proprietary driver, but maybe it's worth a shot :)

System has been more stable since switching off "show information" window, thanks. I actually kinda suspected it was that feature that was causing the issues.

I actually switched off all three "behaviour" tickboxes.

Thanks, Ian

After latest update to KDE the other day, the problem has gone away... so marking as "Fixed" rather than "Solved".
