Hello,

I'm looking to download the newest gentoo minimal installation ISOs for amd64. It seems like the SHA512 sum for install-amd64-minimal-20160428.iso is incorrect.

I downloaded install-amd64-minimal-20160428.iso, install-amd64-minimal-20160428.iso.CONTENTS and install-amd64-minimal-20160428.iso.DIGESTS.asc from http://distfiles.gentoo.org/releases/amd64/autobuilds/current-install-amd64-minimal/. Checked the signed DIGESTS file to make sure it's good:

Code:
$ gpg --verify install-amd64-minimal-20160428.iso.DIGESTS.asc
gpg: Signature made Fri 29 Apr 2016 11:28:46 AM ADT using RSA key ID 2D182910
gpg: Good signature from "Gentoo Linux Release Engineering (Automated Weekly Release Key) <releng@gentoo.org>" [unknown]
gpg: WARNING: This key is not certified with a trusted signature!
gpg:          There is no indication that the signature belongs to the owner.
Primary key fingerprint: 13EB BDBE DE7A 1277 5DFD  B1BA BB57 2E0E 2D18 2910

Then proceeded to verify the main ISO:

Code:
$ grep -A 1 -i sha512 install-amd64-minimal-20160428.iso.DIGESTS.asc
# SHA512 HASH
d550010c85bf3be402ff8311ef7bdb210307d2988d33996ba74ae3c988ab3e5d266d23e6e3491bd936be4eb6b88804679e18e18cd5045c431dfa52622fd00066  install-amd64-minimal-20160428.iso

$ sha512sum install-amd64-minimal-20160428.iso
3c3532d8010004876f0a6e1f7b213604035ffd61e6aa2a39717b67b622538a7b5018405e98c2ee30606558baada808cd48f0310517bb9fd00affba62e1f22435  install-amd64-minimal-20160428.iso

and the sha512sums don't match. Can anyone else please verify this? I tried downloading it three times and got the same result each time. stage3-amd64-20160428.tar.bz2 has the correct SHA512 sum.

What's your goal? To get the SHA match or install Gentoo? FYI the best media for installing Gentoo is SystemRescueCd. It is useful after Gentoo install, too. I recommend you keep it, it is very handy for all kind of repairs, Gentoo or not.

It is being looked into now, you can follow progress on it in bug 581638.

My goal is to use the minimal install ISO to chroot into a gentoo install and bootstrap it with the stage3 tar. Haven't heard of the SystemRescueCd before, but thanks for pointing it out. I'll take a look at it.

Thank you for looking into this. I'm new to the forum and wasn't aware of the bugzilla which definitely seems like a more appropriate place to raise this issue.

Just a side note, you can use any linux live cd or system to install gentoo as installing Gentoo only uses the linux cd/system for the foundation. Reguardless of which one you do, you end up doing all the same steps (maybe not setting up the network connection) of setting up the hard dick(s), downloading the stage3, and chrooting the into the stage3 and continue setting up the system. Beyond getting the basic linux foundation, the Gentoo installation process does not use anything from the linux distro that was used to startup with. (Though having a web browser to have the gentoo guide open while working through it is very helpful.)
