I'd imagine the www-plugins/chrome-binary-plugins being needed only for eww-flash and such... but I'm not entirely sure.
Players using html5 should work fine without, of this I'm almost certain.
I'm also not too familiar with Chromium, though I use a fork of it even while posting right now... but anyblue, I wonder if the proprietary-codecs USE-flag has anything to do with this. I think I used the fork without that for a while, but I forget if I played any video or audio web-content back then.
If it's not that, and system-ffmpeg USE-flag is enabled, I'd probably stare at ffmpeg as well.
Perhaps posting the USE-flags for both would be in order. :] _________________ Kindest of regardses. |

I did not emerged chromium with masked use flag system-ffmpeg.
When unmasking this use flag and emerging chromium, compilation fails:

Ah, I see. In that case indeed the system ffmpeg USE-flags would have no effect, as far as I can tell.
There is bug 576372 that discusses this, with something that might be a possible fix even. _________________ Kindest of regardses. |

Quote: | 1. Start emerge chromium, wait for unpack
2. Run in other term: ln -s /usr/include/libav* /var/tmp/portage/www-client/chromium-50.0.2661.66/work/chromium-50.0.2661.66/third_party/ffmpeg/ |
I waited until unpack.
As long as the ffmpeg directory was not extracted, the link command returned:
Code: | In: target ‘/var/tmp/portage/www-client/chromium-50.0.2661.94/work/chromium-50.0.2661.94/third_party/ffmpeg/’ is not a directory: No such file or directory |
After the appropriate directories where extracted, I got:
Code: | ln: failed to create symbolic link ‘/var/tmp/portage/www-client/chromium-50.0.2661.94/work/chromium-50.0.2661.94/third_party/ffmpeg/libavcodec’: File exists

I emerged chromium with proprietary-codecs (definately needed for some sites even if they use HTML5) and without system-ffmpeg flag. Everything works fine except Adobe Flash of course.
Try this: https://www.youtube.com/html5
What does it say? WebM should work in chromium out of the box. |
