Clementine refuses with message :
Your GStreamer installation is missing a plug-in.
Searching for answers finds result dating to gstreamer 0.10 days, in which emerging media-plugins/gst-plugins-mad or enabling [ mp3 ] use flag solved the problem : https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-859448-start-0.html . Some other places mention the same procedure as being successfull as well
I am with gstreamer and all plugins v. 1.4.5 and not 0.10. gst-plugins-mad installed, and everything else i can think of installed :
media-plugins/gst-plugins-meta
media-libs/gst-plugins-base good bad ugly
media-libs/gst-plugins-meta package.use :

However, what worked for them with 0.10 does not work for me
if that matters, media-video/ffmpeg is installed with package.use :

Which version of clementine and use flags?

Is gstreamer 1.4.5 too new for this version of Clementine ? Isnt it supposed to be autodetected ? |

Clementine-1.2.3 is still using gstramer-0.10. Clementine-1.3 uses the newer oney. You can unmask the most recent clementine version, then it should work.
