try to see if any of these can help you: I had the same problem and I've successfully removed gles2 flag without setting -gles2 globally.

Code:
$ cat /etc/portage/package.use | grep gles2
>=dev-python/PyQt5-5.3.2 printsupport network gui -gles2
>=dev-qt/qtdeclarative-5.4.0 localstorage -gles2
dev-qt/qtmultimedia -gles2
dev-qt/qtgui -gles2
dev-qt/qtopengl -gles2
dev-qt/qtprintsupport -gles2
dev-qt/qtwidgets gtkstyle -gles2
kde-frameworks/plasma -opengl -gles2
kde-plasma/kwin -gles2
kde-apps/kdenlive -gles2

It's not on by default. As I said, kinfocenter[gles] is the problem.

Well, in my case gles2 was and still *is* globally enabled in make.conf

Do you know the reason why you set that? If not, you can just remove it.

Why? Setting it globally worked perfectly with qt < 5.6.0; I disabled the flag only for the needed packages, to solve the infamous "delay" bug

(i.e. mesa is still compiled with gles2 flag)

Besides, if I remember well, removing it globally still gave me blocks with portage

You have to globally disable -egl

My make.conf file:
Code:
USE="... -egl ..."

(no reference to gles USE flags at all - with the standard default/linux/amd64/13.0/desktop/plasma/systemd profile)

My /etc/portage/package.use/ directory:
Code:
egrep "( |\-)(egl|gles)" -R /etc/portage/package.use/
/etc/portage/package.use/media-libs:media-libs/mesa                  -gallium -llvm -opencl -vdpau egl wayland

emerge --info
Code:
emerge --info

Portage 2.3.0_rc1 (python 3.4.3-final-0, default/linux/amd64/13.0/desktop/plasma/systemd, gcc-5.4.0, glibc-2.22-r4, 4.6.0-gentoo x86_64)

The egl use flag has no relation to gles2.

Ah sorry... I'm not up-to-date...
I was thinking of back when the egl USE flag was erroneously linked to the gles2 USE flag for some dev-qt/*:5 libraries - but I see these are all now resolved/ fixed... (E.g. dev-qt/qtmultimedia:5[-gles2] wants dev-qt/qtgui:5[-egl]).

In my defence - this was a thing back in (cough) January 2016 - when I did my Plasma 5 upgrade... :oops:

Has anybody tried the QT 5.6.2 yet? Is the menu slowness still there?

I won't even bother if someone has tried and not seen any improvement. Otherwise, I will try and report.

There's no slowness if you build without gles(2).

That's what I am doing right now. I was wondering if the bug is fixed in 5.6.2 (note that downgrading to 5.5.x while keeping gles also fixed slowness).

Also, I thought gles,gles2,-opengl was the way to go forward. Is that not the case?

i have been wondering for some time now.. can anyone tell me in what way are egl or gles or gles2 useful? if not, i'd rather globally disable them. the thing is i have globally disabled and then enabled them, and i don't really see any difference anywhere

Not on X11.
However kde-frameworks/kwayland (which is a dependency of X11 plasma becoz reazonz) needs media-libs/mesa[egl], so you can disable them globally, but you need to enable egl for mesa.

Parts of it are used even on X, so it is a dependency.

Which parts could have been split into a platform agnostic lib [but not when one has an agenda to push].
