I've recently put my hands on an older version of Banana Pi, and I'm trying to make some use of it with crossdev.
Too bad, some packages fail to compile. ncurses is the first items on my short list so far:

Emerge --info: http://pastebin.com/tTjHVZiR
build log: http://pastebin.com/vc9sawaT
Emerge -pvq:
Quote:
[ebuild N ] sys-libs/ncurses-6.0-r1 to /usr/armv7a-hardfloat-linux-gnueabi/ USE="cxx minimal -abi_ppc_32 -abi_ppc_64 -abi_s390_32 -abi_s390_64 -ada -debug -doc -gpm -profile -static-libs {-test} -threads -tinfo -trace -unicode"

Any hints on this case, or troubleshooting methodology for cross-compilation?

I got it sorted. Crossdev creates build environment with profile "embedded" by default. Changing it to an armv7a (matching my board) did the trick.
