Did the upgrade overnight. Can't seem to get kmix to give me a volume control on the panel.

Anyone had this?

Did you try to run it? 'kmix&' I recall in the past having to do that once.
Also there is a widget you might try. Add a new widget and search for 'audio'.

I have now, that opens kmix but I still don't get the panel control.

Also I don't get the audio widget, is there something else I need to emerge/update? I assumed plasma-meta would pull in a lot more than it did.

Same issue here.

I have 15.12.3, and nothing in the tray.
I tried the solution given in [1], but nothing really shows up there
other than the defaults (notifier, batteries and notifications).

Would love to get some assistance.

Not an expert but just trying to help here...

Which version of kmix do you have installed? Is it in the (5) slot or the (4)?

Can you click on the black arrow in the panel and choose "System Tray Settings" then under "Extra Items" do you have an item which says "audio volume"? If so try selecting that. When I do that however I get two audio volume icons as I believe I am also using kmix. Note that I am using pulseaudio though.

slot 5.

Re your first post: I know the volume widget you mean as I have a kubuntu vm where I can search for it but on my gentoo box it is missing. All that is in the multimedia category is the media player widget. That's why I wonder if I'm missing a package.
I'm not getting audio volume in extra items.
I don't use pulseaudio.

I followed the plasma 5 upgrade guide from the wiki.
Same thing with or without legacy-systray flag

I don't have more categories in multimedia and this work. I just install kmix-15.12.3

Launch kmix from kde/applications/multimedia/kmix, open configuration and look in sound menu if "dock in system tray" is check.
