https://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/
the beautiful nouveau team pushed teh required modifications upstream to kernel (starting 4.6.0) to support GM20x acceleration (with redistributable signed firmware) and mesa 11.2.
That means nvidia cards GTX 950/960/970/980. Can't wait. |

So it's actually happening? Fantastic news, this has been a long time coming.
Great timing, since I'm looking for a new gpu anyway. |

It's actually working. I didn't try with 4.6.0 or 4.6.1. Didn't have the time. But finally got to it at 4.6.2 and it's working great using modesetting module. Dont try to put driver nouveau in xorg.conf. just uninstall nvidia-drivers or blacklist it in modprobe and X will fallback to modesetting. it's even 3d accel ) works great.

So what GPU are you using? What performance are you seeing? |

lspci | grep VGA
06:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GM206 [GeForce GTX 960] (rev a1)
TBH i have no idea how to measure performance in linux
All I can say is that it feels smooth. Just as smooth as it felt with nvidia-drivers. I am using gnome-3. |

I've compared cards using the Unigine Valley and Heaven benchmarks.
Haven't yet compared between nvidia-drivers and nouveau though, just cards for which the older one, the GTX 275, nouveau was unable to control its fan at all, so it wasn't an option for that one, unfortunately.
I have been meaning to try the drivers out with the GTX 960 I got now...
Would also be interesting to see some results from AMD users (I've heard good things of those recently, and things like FreeSync do make me think about switching over). _________________ Kind Regards,
