Well I did an emerge -u world and it updated my qt and other stuff. I restarted the computer and now I don't have any icons in kde 3.02. When I try to start control center and home catalogue and some other application they all crash. I get this message when I kill x:
libpng error: Incompatible libpng version in application and library
libpng warning: Application was compiled with png.h from libpng-1.0.12
libpng warning: Application is running with png.c from libpng-1.2.4
I really would appreciate an answer |

If the icons in KDE are all in png format, this could be your problem. I would do the following to correct it. Get in a terminal where you can
Then I would go to the file /usr/portage/profiles/package.mask and mask the file by adding the line
somewhere to that file. Then you can do a
and see if it'll grab the one you want.
There are other options. If you want to, you could do a to recompile everything that kde needs including kde. This should definitly fix your problem, but it will take a lot more time. Let me know if any of this helps. _________________ if i never try anything, i never learn anything..

I followed the instructions and the first one didn't work so I a did a emerge -e kde and when it came to ghostscript 7.05.3-r1 emerge failded. I'm using XFS as my filesystem and 2.4.18-xfs kernel. |

I apologize for the late response, but I've been on vacation and moving from one apartment to another. What was the error message that you got on ghostscript? I don't think this has to do with XFS, but if ghostscript didn't compile then it may not have completed everything it needed to for KDE icons to work. _________________ if i never try anything, i never learn anything..
