Hi,

I'm trying to handle several different display issues - maybe related to the same problem.

First of all - video. When I play video using smplayer it does not scale with application - it stays the same size and even in the same place if I move smplayer window (yes - it is possible that video can be outside the application window).

Second issue is related to the steam game -XCOM. It does not "catch" the keyboard. And when I start it I loose windows decorations (KDE). Restart of plasmashell does not help. In fullscreen mode the game "window" is very small (as small as unscalable video in smplayer).

Third one - I cannot use fluxbox on a second xorg session. It does not refresh the "background". The foreground window is displayed correctly but when I move it - I can see the whole route frame by frame ;).

And fourth - minor one and probably related just to KDE. With external display (HDMI) I get just black/blank field. There is no wallpaper or anything else. I can place window there - and everything seems to be OK. Rstart of plasmnashell helps.

Standard informations:

Code:

Is that problem from the WM or from smplayer? Try with ffplay and check if you can resize the window

$ ffplay <filename>

You might also try starting the WM using startx as sometimes login managers make problems.

smplayer doesn't render the video directly that's a child (mplayer or mpv) window that's wandering about. But I presume you know that...

What version of Plasma 5 are you using? 5.6.1 from Portage?
Are you trying to run an bumblebee setup? I thought that Nvidia didn't officially support kernel 4.5.0 yet... 8O
If so what xorg-server version are using?
Are you using the beta 364 Nvidia driver?
Perhaps you could post your /var/log/Xorg.0.log ?

Bob

This problem occurs in smplayer as well as with VLC. With ffplay - everything is perfectly fine!

VLC gives some errors:
Code:

[0000000001622408] qt4 interface error: Unable to load extensions module
Failed to open VDPAU backend libvdpau_va_gl.so

Due to sugesstions of BobWya I've tried to run video directly from mplayer. It also does not scale:

Code:

This problem occurs in smplayer as well as with VLC. With ffplay - everything is perfectly fine!

Due to sugesstions of BobWya I've tried to run video directly from mplayer. ...

So it's just vdpau that's broken - right? I know this happens quite often, on Linux. The latest Nvidia 364.12 drivers have a broken vdpau implementation (damn - they're the folks that came up with the "standard" in the first place!!)

What the output from:
Code:
vdpauinfo

My mpv config file:
Code:
~/.config/mpv/mpv.conf

profile=pseudo-gui
hwdec=vdpau
save-position-on-quit=yes

Very tidy and light-weight video player with those settings... All I use these days 8)

Just now it falls back to GL acceleration - as vdpau appears to be a bit borked with my current Nvidia driver (a reported issue on the Nvidia dev forums). But mpv works under Plasma 5 and with minimal CPU load!

You might want to refer to x11-base/xorg-server-1.18.2: quiet XVidMode GetModeLine log flood ... Might be affecting you... Since you appear to be testing whilst running your intel GL driver...

Plus subscribe to KDE Bug 356225: Panel moves to wrong screen when external monitor is connected
or one of the many other Qt 5.x bugs that might be causing your monitor issues... :roll:

What version of Plasma 5 are you using? (That's the top layer: kde-plasma/*)
What version of the Qt5 libraries are you using? (That's the bottom layer: dev-qt/*:5)

Have you tried running XCOM with Plasma compositing disabled? If so does that make a difference?

I've got an open bug against the Plasma 5.6.1 Desktop. Window shadows break when I run demanding (native) GL-based games - but only when compositing is enabled. See Bug 361154 - Running native OpenGL games - with compositing enabled - breaks X11 Plasma 5.6.0 Window Decorations...

However it sounds more like plasma-shell is crashing in your case (that process oversees the panels and window decoration placement). See KDE Bug 356225 in that case - the workaround for that is to restart plasma-shell. I've still got a script (see this attachment) bound to CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE - to reset my panel positions and restart plasma-shell (for emergency use) 8)

Are you using the "official" Gentoo Steam Overlay? I presume XCOM is installed from Steam??!!

Bob
