Hello!
I am experiencing performance issues with some 3D applications. I have first noticed those issues with xscreensaver. Some of the 3D screensavers are running very slow, while other 3D screensavers are running very okay. glxgears gives me about 650FPS and I have direct rendering enabled. Today I wanted to play SuperTuxKart with my wife, but it's totally unplayable for me. It's definitely something with my system configuration, because the screensavers as well as the game were running okay on my previous system (Mint) on the same computer.
I have nVidia Quadro FX 1800M card running proprietary nVidia driver, version 340.96, installed from the portage.
Any ideas what can be the issue?
Thanks for your time!

I dig up a little deeper in glxinfo and I found this:
OpenGL vendor string: VMware, Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 3.5, 128 bits)
I found some more information about similar issue in the other thread. I found out that my VIDEO_CARDS was set to nouevau for some reason (probably I forgot to update that when I was setting up the system). I have updated it to nvidia and now I am recompiling mesa, let us see if that helps. |

Indeed that did the trick. Now everything works smoothly
OpenGL vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
OpenGL renderer string: Quadro FX 1800M/PCIe/SSE2 |
