I was having problems immediately after emerging nvidia-drivers-364.12. Upon rebooting I found that sddm would segfault with messages like:
| Code: |

I tried re-installing sddm and nvidia-drivers but the same thing occurred. I had to mask "nvidia-drivers-364.12" and then rebuild my kernel 4.5.0 and then every thing worked again.
Anyone else seeing something like this? |

Seeing the exact same thing, did some debugging last night - look in your Xorg.0.log for the failing case - does it complain about not being able to open /dev/dri/card0 ?
That seems to be the root of the issue, for some reason with the new driver, the creation of that device-node isn't being triggered in udev, I switch back to the old nvidia-drivers version, and it all works...
gentoo-sources-4.4.6, GTX970. |

Unfortunately since downgrading I rebooted a few times and no longer have a log for it. I also was not able to find any such message in the journal, only errors from sddm segfaults. Here is the GPU though should it help identify a pattern:
| Code: |
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF108 [GeForce GT 730] (rev a1)
|
I see that a lot of new stuff has been introduced in this beta driver so it might be something weird related to it. If it is messing up for almost all Gentoo users trying it then we should be seeing a lot more messages soon. |
