Code:
$ vlc http://antennechillout.radio.de/genre/Chillout/
VLC media player 2.2.1 Terry Pratchett (Weatherwax) (revision 2.2.1-0-ga425c42)
[000000225ab9acb8] core libvlc: Running vlc with the default interface. Use 'cvlc' to use vlc without interface.
[000000225ac7e8c8] qt4 interface error: Unable to load extensions module
[00000357ec000e88] core access error: connection failed: Connection refused
[00000357ec000e88] http access error: cannot connect to 127.0.0.1 8118:80
[00000357ec000e88] access_mms access error: unrecognized chunk FATAL (0x213c)

[00000357f00009b8] core input error: open of `http://antennechillout.radio.de/genre/Chillout/' failed
I do wonder which USE flag I do miss :
Code:
=================================================================
                        Package Settings
=================================================================

media-video/vlc-2.2.1-r1::gentoo was built with the following:

toralf ...

I don't know about vlc but other players (such as mplayer, mpv, etc) require the 'network' useflag set on media-video/ffmpeg (which is -network by default).

Also, I'm not sure how vlc will handle a URI that doesn't point to something like a *.pls ... I have a vague recollection of my having to get a directory listing, parse out the actual playlist, and point the player at that. That was sometime back, and I can't remember anything more specific than that, it may be the case that the index.html will function similarly to *.pls, and the player handle it fine ... but thought it worth mentioning none the less.

best ... khay

Try a valid url
Code:
$ vlc http://www.hr.gl-systemhaus.de/video/hs/2015_10/151031193533_hs_kamin.mp4

And aso check the antennechillout with ffplay
Code:
$ ffplay http://antennechillout.radio.de/genre/Chillout/

Regarding the USE flags, there was a recommendation on VideoLAN.

Have you tried VideoLANs USE flag recommendation?

Yes, nad I'm sure I've nealy all needed USE flags set :
Code:
media-video/vlc-2.2.1-r1::gentoo was built with the following:
USE="X a52 alsa avcodec avformat cdda dbus dts dvb dvbpsi dvd encode ffmpeg flac fontconfig gcrypt httpd jpeg kde libnotify libsamplerate live lua matroska mp3 mpeg mtp ncurses ogg opengl png qt4 rtsp samba sdl svg swscale theora truetype udev v4l vaapi vcdx vorbis vpx x264 xcb xml xv -aalib (-altivec) -atmo (-audioqueue) -bidi -bluray -cddb -chromaprint -dc1394 -debug -directfb (-directx) (-dxva2) -faad -fdk -fluidsynth -gme -gnome -gnutls -growl -ieee1394 -jack -kate -libass -libav -libcaca -libtar -libtiger -linsys -lirc (-macosx-dialog-provider) (-macosx-eyetv) (-macosx-qtkit) (-macosx-quartztext) (-media-library) -modplug -musepack (-neon) -omxil -opencv -optimisememory (-opus) -postproc -projectm -pulseaudio -qt5 -rdp -run-as-root -schroedinger -sdl-image -sftp -shout -sid -skins -speex -taglib -test -tremor -twolame -upnp -vdpau -vlm -vnc -wma-fixed -x265 -zeroconf -zvbi" ABI_X86="64" CPU_FLAGS_X86="mmx sse"
LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1 -Wl,--as-needed -L/usr/lib64/sidplay/builders/"
but do get :

As for your url http://antennechillout.radio.de/genre/Chillout/ I guess there might be something special in mpv that ffmpeg and vlc both don't have.

Better discussion forum for this would be https://forum.videolan.org/

I know it's old, but I had the same problem, and the issue was in `gvfs` flags, and not `vlc`. Adding to portage `package.use`:

Code:
gnome-base/gvfs mtp fuse udisks

I believe the missing `mtp` was the issue for me.
