I've been using nxserver-freeedition for ever and its getting really crufty. If I detach from the session, when I go back in the graphics are all fowled up and mostly unusable.

So I've been looking for alternatives and found X2Go, which is really cool, but I can't quite get it to work.

It seems to fail when it launches startkde. I get absolutely no error messages, no clues as to what's going on.

But when I run a single application, like Chromium, it works fine.

I have recompiled openssh on the server with -hpn. I tried the latest libssh but that failed because scp couldn't write to my home directory on the server. I got an error message for that.

Has anyone seen anything like this or have any suggestions / things to try?

Thanks in advance.

Brian

I've had the same trouble. As workaround I would suggest you (re)move /etc/x2go/Xsession file.
Hope, it'll help you.

Weird hint, muixeg, but it works well for me, thank you! After moving /etc/x2go/Xsession out of the way, I managed to start XFCE without problem, and also Gnome2.

Only Gnome3 doesn't work yet within x2go, but that seems to be an unrelated bug (?).

Thanks much Muixeg!

I also did this, although I don't know if it was necessary:

Code:
mkdir /etc/X11/Xresources

Its working now!

I got the stable x2goclient and x2goserver running on my home network this morning and I've been running it all day. It was easy to get it going, and it seems stable.

I did need to follow advice here and remove /etc/x2go/Xsession from the x2go server installation (by renaming it to Xsession.not). What's that all about? I did not do anything with the broken link /etc/x2go/Xresources but what's that about? These are apparently left over or in-work developoment files, and seem hardly appropriate in a stable release.

Very little forum activity here about x2go. I'm very thankful for those who brought these to the regular repositories. I've been worried about the abandonment of freenx and the nomachine efforts.

If the folks can help, I am having a tough time with x2go. See: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-7755224.html

How can things change within a month to go from "easy to get going" to "tough time making x2go work"? What changed?

I'm also experiencing this, I can get firefox to launch and a kde session does start, a window opens but then the session is closed almost instantly. Removing Xsession didn't help me. :?

Same problem here, single applications are working, but I can't get Xfce or Fluxbox working.
Setup is both sides with Gentoo and net-misc/x2goserver-4.0.1.19 and net-misc/x2goclient-4.0.4.0 (the recent did not build).
The pam_mount stuff is working via ssh, anyway the home is already mounted for testing at x2go login.
I also tried removing the Xsession file and calling some /usr/bin/startfluxbox or /usr/bin/startxfce4 manually. Same issue, the session gets closed immediately.
Connecting via ssh -X works. Also starting an nxagent locally like this works:
Code:
nxagent :42 &
DISPLAY=:42 xfce4-session
