Hi, after my recent update of my system (haven't done one for nearly a month, yeah, I know it's bad) Steam just segfaults seemingly on random. I have no idea what exactly causes Steam to do so. Sadly running Steam from command line isn't much more helpful as that also only says "Segmentation Fault" rather than giving any helpful error messages. I have no idea what causes that, the only thing I know is that it doesn't happen while a game is running. Except for that it seems like it's just random. Sometimes it crashes after just a few seconds of running, sometimes it does after 2 hours. Part of the update where some memory allocation libraries, so I assume it has to do with either those being buggy or the Steam client relying on undefined bahavior, which got changed in those versions. Besides the Steam client I have experienced no segfaults whatsoever and while I haven't done a memcheck it makes me assume that it's more a software error rather than a hardware error, if it started happening right after an update, steam crashes frequently, but nothing else does.
Does anyone know more about this or experienced a similar problem and possibly knows what exactly causes this? |
