|

I have a fresh install of Gentoo. This machine had Gentoo on it for 3 years and sound worked fine, so I know the problem has to be something to do with reinstalling, but I'm not sure what. I know this chipset is problematic... I just can't figure out the problem. I have recompiled the kernel, setting all of the music drivers to external modules so I can troubleshoot. I was sure that something simple like modprobe snd-intel-hda would fix it, but it didn't. Sound does not work in X nor using command line.

have you found the solution yet? I am building new system on the Intel Skylake platform and that many problems all over the places (mostly with GPU acceleration which is so far only freezeing my unit) I have not seen for years. My output looks very similar to yours and running alsamixer yields same result
My hardware is GA-Z170X-Gaming 3 http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5497#sp

Ran out of time and had to table this project but am open to working on it more if anyone else has similar experiences. The next thing I was going to try was to rebuild the kernel, compiling one sound driver as a module, install and reboot, and see if I could get anywhere going through the kernel audio drivers one at a time. I would start with the AC97 then use the had Intel driver and move on from there. Also thought about adding firmware from the portage repo but again ran out of time to mess with it. If you think of anything let me know and I'll give it a shot. You are right though. It looks like we are both dealing with an Intel driver issue. |
