I have an i3 Intel NUC a Broadwell chipset and I can use VLC with hardware acceleration by configuring LIBVA to use the "i965" driver, setting "VDPAU_QUIRKS=AvoidVA" and VDPAU to use "va_gl" for a normal video playback on a landscape screen.

However while using "xrandr - o right" or "xrandr - o left" rotates the screen orientation as expect any screen updates then become very slow. If I try VLC while the screen is rotated X11 CPU utilization goes through the roof and the screen seems to lock on the first or second frame.

No new messages are generated in the X11 logs when the xrandr rotate command is issued but vlc does keep reporting "vlc (video): [ae905338] avcodec decoder error: more than 5 seconds of late video" while the screen is rotated.

I know screen rotation works just fine with Haswell based GPU's such as the HD4400 using the exact same configuration.

Is this a bug or am I missing something fundamental in the configuration of the system?
